The Dubai Rugby Sevens 2025 proved to be a landmark event for Saudi rugby, showcasing not only the growing talent within the Kingdom but also the significant strides the Saudi Arabian Rugby Federation (SARF) is making in the regional and international rugby community.
Saudi Warriors Triumph in the Social Cup
Amidst the fierce competition, the Saudi Warriors emerged victorious, clinching the Social Cup in the Gulf Men’s Social category. This remarkable achievement marks a new chapter for Saudi rugby on the international stage. The Warriors’ grit, teamwork, and determination throughout the tournament were nothing short of inspiring, setting a precedent for future Saudi teams competing globally.
“We are incredibly proud of what the Saudi Warriors have accomplished. This victory signifies more than just a trophy; it represents the hard work, resilience, and passion of everyone involved in Saudi rugby,” said Ali Al-Dajani, President of SARF.
Tuwaiq Breaks New Ground in Women’s Rugby
History was made as Tuwaiq, the first-ever Saudi women’s rugby team, competed in the Dubai 7s. This groundbreaking participation signifies the rapid growth and inclusivity of rugby in Saudi Arabia. Representing the Kingdom on such a prestigious platform highlights the strides being taken to empower female athletes and foster gender equality in sports.
“Our women’s rugby team embodies the values of courage and progress. We are thrilled to see them take this step and inspire future generations of Saudi women,” added Al-Dajani.
A Strategic Partnership for Regional Development
The tournament also witnessed a pivotal moment for Gulf rugby as SARF signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the UAE Rugby Federation. The agreement aims to foster collaboration and further the development of rugby across the region.
The MoU was signed by SARF President Ali Al-Dajani and UAE Rugby Federation Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Zaabi, representing H.H. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Juma Al Maktoum. Distinguished guests included Qais Al-Dhalai, President of the Asian and Arab Rugby Federations, and Alan Gilpin, CEO of World Rugby.
This partnership underscores the shared vision of both federations to promote rugby’s growth and excellence in the Gulf.
Portas Consulting Supports Women’s Rugby
In a landmark sponsorship deal, Portas Consulting announced its support for SARF’s women’s rugby development program. This partnership will play a crucial role in advancing the sport and empowering female athletes in the Kingdom.
“Portas is proud to sponsor the development of the women’s rugby team in Saudi Arabia,” said David Portas, Owner of Portas Consulting. “We believe that investing in SARF’s women’s program will be instrumental in fostering a vibrant rugby community where the game is equally embraced by all.”
Ali Al-Dajani shared his gratitude, emphasizing the partnership’s importance:
“With Portas by our side, we are shaping the future of women’s rugby in Saudi Arabia, creating opportunities, and building a legacy of empowerment and unity.”
